How to Create a QR Code

Step-by-step: generate a QR code

  1. Choose your QR code type. Select the content format: URL, plain text, email address, phone number, or WiFi credentials. Each type encodes the data differently so the scanner knows how to handle it.
  2. Enter your content. Paste the URL, type the text, or fill in the WiFi network name and password. For email QR codes, you can pre-fill the subject line and message body.
  3. Customize the design. Pick a size (200px for small labels, 400px for posters), set foreground and background colors, and optionally upload a center logo. Keep high contrast between the code and background : dark on light works best.

  5. Test before printing. Scan the generated code with at least 2-3 different phone models. Test with both the native camera app and a dedicated QR scanner. If you added a logo, verify it hasn't made the code unscannable.
  6. Download and use. Download the high-resolution PNG file. For print, use the "Large" size option (400px) and ensure the printed code is at least 2 cm × 2 cm.

Design best practices

  • Minimum print size: 2 cm × 2 cm for close-range scanning (business cards, labels). For signage scanned from 1+ meters, use at least 10 cm × 10 cm.
  • Contrast ratio: Maintain high contrast between the QR code and background. Dark modules on a light background is standard. Avoid light-on-light or dark-on-dark combinations.
  • Error correction: Use level H (30% redundancy) if you plan to add a logo. This allows part of the code to be covered while remaining scannable.
  • Quiet zone: Leave a white border around the QR code : at least 4 modules wide. This helps scanners detect the code boundaries.
